Nanaimo Emergency Physician Association (NEPA)

This is a service provided for the entire hospital at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

The purpose of the service is to assist hospital based physicians with any procedure that may be required on a patient admitted to the hospital as in inpatient or outpatient, or through the Emergency Department.

The service draws on physicians with many different scopes of practice, but generally the procedures offered include procedural sedation, intubation, central venous access, peripheral venous access, lumbar puncture, simple and complicated suturing, joint and fracture reduction, chest tube insertion, paracentesis and thoracocentesis. Other procedures may or may not be performed depending on the comfort level of the attending proceduralist.

The service is very popular with residents. Frequently a learner can acquire a number of procedures in a 2 week elective that would frequently take months to acquire on a regular rotation on a different service.

If you are interested in either being an attending physician, or a resident learner, please contact us at info@docsdoprocs.com.
